What we think... We think that this house is such a find! This truly delightful large family house, set within the centre of a buzzy large village is a great place for a get-together. Astier Maison de Maitre stands within large, enclosed garden with 14 metre pool, shared with Astier Village Stable. "Many thanks for a wonderful two weeks. The house successfully kept teenagers and tots entertained. The garden is a dream and we will miss it lots when we return to London." Victoria Speed and family, Aug 2009"Wonderful house and a great location. Elenor loved the trampoline. We have had a fabulous time and a great holiday." Lindsey Davies and family, Jul 2009"We all had a wonderful time in your beautiful house. The children really loved the pool and walks into the town to buy breakfast!. All the toys here were much appreciated. Thank you also to Heidi for looking after us so well." A Tots family, Jul 2009"Homely, welcoming, thoughtfully equipped. We recommend the ponies for the children, the local market, wandering the back streets of the town and as much relaxing and outdoor time as possible - thank you!" Owen Holt and family, Nov 2009Inside Built at the turn of the century, Astier Maison de Maitre is a large family home complete with high ceilings, picture windows and well proportioned rooms. The house retains many of its original period features such as the large stone fireplace in the sitting room. The house has 5 bedrooms - 3 doubles (one is a sofabed) and two twins. Together they sleep 8 plus cots: Master bedroom: queen size bed with modern en-suite bath/shower room Bedroom 2: double bed with en-suite shower Bedroom 3: sofa bed with DVD and flat screen satellite TV; can be used as a sitting room if not as a bedroom. Bedroom 4: 2 singles Bedroom 5: 2 singles There is also a large family bathroom with a shower and bath - ideal for kids' bath time. The kitchen is fully equipped for family life and is fitted with a dishwasher. There is an additional TV with DVD, video and satellite. French doors lead directly out into the summer sun and the delights of the enclosed swimming pool. There is also a dining area and large, elegant sitting room. The house is a family home for the majority of the year and so retains the feeling of a proper home rather than simply a rented gite. Parent Point: It is not possible to add stairgates to the staircase of a house as grand as this; none the less, access to the stairs can be controlled on all floors by closing doors on each landing and hallway so that the stairwell is cut-off from the adventurous crawler! Outside
The large walled garden provides a safe haven for the children and is enclosed at both ends by electric gates. The large swimming pool (14 metres) is fully enclosed ensuring that little ones do not find their way into the enclosure without parental supervision. Other facilities... You can arrange for a home cooked meal to be delivered to your property on the night of your arrival. This is great for your first night and saves you having to worry about what do cook! There is a great menu, which includes Lasagne Bolognese, Pasta Pesto alla Rucola and Penne alla Carbonara. Please enquire for further details. And beyond... Few of our houses enjoy such a convenient setting allied to the splendours of such a well appointed period house.
La Maison d'Astier is set in the heart of a large, busy village which has no fewer than 5 boulangeries for your breakfast croissants and a large supermarket which sells everything from nappies to fresh fish.
There are a further 5 family friendly cafes and restaurants to choose from and if cooking is not your scene, or you fancy a break from the kitchen, then you can order a restaurant quality meal to be enjoyed at home.
Market day is held on a Thursday, just a stone's throw from the front door and for many will be the highlight of the week. The convenience, colours, shapes, tastes and smells are a treat and great fun for all. A smaller, organic market is held on a Sunday. From the door you can choose to walk around the village or straight up into the Perigordian hills beyond. Alternatively, take your little one for a walk in the pram along the river or enjoy many of the events that happen throughout the summer, including antiques fairs (‘brocantes'), music festivals, night markets and outstanding firework displays all of which are gratuit! For slightly older children (post toddler) a stay here would not be complete without a canoe trip down the River Isle.
This is an immensely pleasant way to pass a couple of hours, particularly if you take a picnic and relax into the pace of the river.
There is also a small cinema. Nearby are some fantastic child friendly stables with beautifully trained Shetland ponies the size of large dogs!
This is the perfect place for your child to try the sport for the first time or for more experienced riders to have some fun. For the odd rainy day, there is a very family friendly bowling park in Perigieux which is near lots of restaurants. Parent Point: Being so central there are two nights in the year when the music can be heard from the house. The dates of these change annually. Before booking, please read about Realistic Expectations. You should also read our Terms and Conditions.
