This delightful gite cluster is a perfect setting for a “get away from it all” family holiday - ideal for those who want their own space but also like the idea of being around other families with children to play with.
The gites are surrounded by large, well maintained grounds that are ideal for outdoor play. The heated (saline) pool is a great hit with all the family and is safely enclosed. The onsite bar and games room provides a perfect setting for grown-ups to mingle and for the kids to play. Your English hosts provide (optional) evening events during the week which give you the opportunity to savour the local produce or to have a night away from the kitchen with their delicious home cooked food. For those quieter moments there are lots of games to play, movies to watch, pictures to colour and toys to play with. For those in need of a bit more action there is lots to do and see just within a short drive of the cluster. The beaches are less than 30 minutes away. Inside
Bellevue is newly converted and is tucked away within the cluster of gites, facing away from the main property and overlooking the beautiful countryside beyond. The gite has three bedrooms: two doubles and one twin with bunk beds. The master bedroom has a beautiful sitting area and a log burner, just perfect for curling up in front of with a good book. Alternatively, when the sun is shining, fling open the balcony doors, relax with a glass of the local Pineau and soak up the great views of the local countryside (and the pool). You enter the gite from the pretty enclosed private garden, under the covered patio area, out of the heat of the summer and into the cool of the house.
The living room with its clean tiled floor has two sofas ideal for escaping from the heat of the day. A TV with English free view channels is also provided.
Leading off from the living room is the kitchen and dining area. The compact but well equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking all those delicious ingredients bought at the local markets. The kitchen is a combination of fitted and free standing units, with a dishwasher, large fridge freezer and Microwave. The dining area has a farmhouse style table and seating for six.
Parent Point: There is a tiled step immediately inside the front door; it is not possible to gate this but by keeping the doors closed the risk of falling is greatly reduced. Outside
For those long warm summer evenings there is a walled private patio area over looking the beautiful countryside, which features an outside covered dining and BBQ area that lends itself perfectly to dining alfresco - not forgetting that some delicious home cooked food can be delivered direct to your door to be enjoyed with some of the excellent local wines and Pineau! Set adjacent to the property is the enclosed saline solar heated pool. There are plenty of sun loungers making it the perfect place to top up that tan; the children will love playing in the lovely pool or in the shade of the gazebo. Once the children have made friends with the other guests you will struggle to get them away, but if you do, there are plenty of good walks direct from the property – if you manage to get past the garden’s play area that is!
Over-looking the very pretty courtyard, under the shade of the large lime tree, you will find the bar and games room - a perfect location to get to know the other guests and to quiz your hosts about what’s on in the local area. The owners provide several social evenings here and guests can arrange to have meals served either here or in your gite.
The bar area also has pool and football tables, and the owners hold movie nights for the older children. On rainy days Gillian often sets up the bar area as a playroom with colouring and games for the smaller children, a very thoughtful and popular service.

For the children…
There is a lovely enclosed garden with plenty of space to play and run around. Some great outdoor children’s play equipment is also available. The heated saline enclosed pool is wonderful for children of all ages to enjoy the water, and a pool-side gazebo provides some welcome shade to play in. The cluster features a bar and games room with pool and football tables – not forgetting movie nights for the older children. On rainy days the bar area is also a playroom with colouring and games for the smaller children And Beyond…
Set in the beautiful Charentaise countryside, surrounded by farm and woodland, there are plenty of lovely walks and cycle rides direct from the property.
Just ten minutes away is the delightful town of Pons which is dominated by its ‘donjon’, a 12th century keep which now houses the tourist office. The old town has tiny medieval streets (les ruelles) and imposing ramparts looking down onto the River Seugne 30 metres below, all of which can be explored on foot. The town is situated on the ancient route of the pilgrims and is also home to a museum of the pilgrims. Good bars and restaurants are available. Trips on the river are available (balades en barque), as is fishing. On the outskirts is a ‘base de loisirs’ with crazy golf and other entertainment for children.
Fifteen minutes away to the south is the slightly larger town of Jonzac which has a new Oasis style water park and lovely safe bathing at its man-made lake and separate boating lake. For those who are in search of some great French food, there are numerous restaurants in the area with the closest being only ten minutes away, and for those who want to cook their own masterpieces there are several markets on various days in the surrounding towns. Apart from the many caves offering tastings of the local Charentaise tipple Pineau, a trip to Cognac is also worth a visit, with its numerous world famous Cognac houses and a beautiful town to wander around.
A little further afield are the very child friendly beaches of the Gironde Estuary, with miles of safe sandy beaches and lovely little coastal villages and towns. Definitely not to be missed if sand is an important part of your holiday! Also worth a visit is La Palymre – it is the largest Zoo in France - with over 1600 animals to delight and entertain the whole family. Before booking, please read about Realistic Expectations.
