What we think… La Maison Soie is a restored 15th Century silk-mill, situated in the middle of a quiet rural village in the Gard region of the south of France, surrounded by vineyards and lovely countryside. The building has been renovated in an esoteric and sympathetic style and features a vaulted living room and a fresque in the main bedroom. With the convenience of the village shop and a lovely restaurant on your doorstep this village house is great for those that want to be submersed in the middle of a classic French village.
Inside Upstairs you will find a large master bedroom with a study / playroom and ensuite shower room, a twin bedroom with an ensuite shower room, and a further double bedroom. A baby bath is provided for bathing small babies. The master bedroom has a fresque painted on the wall and a high ceiling with velux window and was originally the room that the Silk worms did their work in. Downstairs has a long living room with a vaulted ceiling as well as a TV room with DVD player (with children's DVD library) and English satellite television. The living room has a piano at one end and a wood burning stove at the other. The kitchen has all the facilities that you would hope for including a washing machine, oven, microwave and fridge. Parent Points! There are two steps from the kitchen to courtyard and 3 steps from first floor corridor to the master bedroom. There is also one step from the living room to the kitchen. The first floor study/playroom has a Juliet balcony (see photo); it has narrow bars but care should be taken to make sure that any crawlers could not escape if the doors are left open. Baby and Toddler friendly! • 2 Cots • 2 Highchairs • 2 Booster seats • 2 Potties • Steriliser • Plastic cutlery • Plastic step • Changing mat • Socket guards • Baby bath • Children's toys • Bath toys • Small outdoor toys • Hand held blender • DVD player • DVD library Outside La Maison Soie has its own private walled courtyard which is perfect for shady meals al fresco. Although it is not a garden, there is room to run around in and it also has an outdoor shower to cool off and to also to clean off the children before going back inside! Boules and ping pong are also available for your use. The enclosed courtyard is completely safe and small toys are supplied. And Beyond Situated on a quiet village street, 100 metres from vineyards and fabulous views, you have plently to see and do right on the doorstep. It is only five minutes walk to a children's playground. This village is ideally situated for lots of days out – the Roman city of Nimes (www.ot-nimes.fr) and the Pont du Gard are not far for example– and the young and vibrant city of Montpellier (www.ot-montpellier.fr) is a must see day out and great too for a bit of culture en plein air. Avignon is a very popular destination too and kayaking, horse-riding and bike hire can be found locallly. There is lots of information available in the house about what to do and see locally. Before booking, please read about Realistic Expectations. You should also read our Terms and Conditions.
