Restored in the traditional style by local craftsmen, this house provides a glimpse back to a time where life moved at a slower pace. If it is peace and quiet that you are after, La Bergerie is the place to go. ‘La Bergerie is a haven of peace.’ Designed on one floor and retaining its original character, the comfortable main living and dining area is centred on an impressive stone fireplace with the four large bedrooms around the edge. The sitting room boasts a large comfortable sofa and chairs - just the place to curl up and enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fire or a quiet story with the children before bed. There is also a large farmhouse style dining table and chairs - ideal for family meals. ‘Snooze in a hammock under the mature oaks or enjoy the cool of the pool - this is the place to forget the rigours of the real world.’The three double bedrooms - all tastefully decorated - are spacious and have lovely views out onto the surrounding garden, meadows and forest beyond. The fourth bedroom is a children’s room with a pair of twin beds. The galley kitchen is well equipped and leads directly out to the garden. The bathroom is simple and has a bath with shower attachment and a separate shower cubicle. Heating and a basket of logs are included making this a perfect place to come- even out of season. With badminton, volleyball, football and table tennis on offer, or a cycle ride (child seats available) into the forest with a picnic, there are plenty of ways to burn off any surplus energy. There are balls of all shapes and sizes, a mini football net, a swing hanging from an old oak tree and a sandpit so there is no risk of running out of ways to keep the children occupied. With many miles of ‘pram-able’ walks amongst the pine trees, the close proximity to the Atlantic coast and buzzy Cap Ferret, this is a versatile and interesting place to stay. La Bergerie lies in the heart of Europe’s largest forest - so with over 1 million hectares of National Park to explore as well as over 100 km of beautiful deserted beach within an hours drive, you are unlikely to feel hemmed in by other people. Furthermore, with many of the world’s greatest chateaux within striking distance and plenty of excellent restaurants close by you are perfectly placed to enjoy some of France’s gastronomic delights. The low cost airlines are a cheap and convenient way to get to France and we have chosen houses that are no more than an hour away from a local airport, making it possible to be at your destination within 4 hours of leaving home. Bordeaux is the nearest airport.
