What we think…
This is a delightful compact but purpose built holiday house, perfect for those looking for a traditional seaside bucket and spade holiday. Although the bedrooms are not ideal for children of all ages, the living space, garden and the house’s proximity to the beach and local amenities make for a great holiday destination.

Set in a small complex of purpose built holiday homes, you will find this charming little house tucked away in a quiet cul de sac just a 5 minutes’ walk from the beach or 15 minutes from the local harbour with its large variety of restaurants, shops and fish market.

Inside
Having wandered in from the heat of the sun, this cool, bright and fresh little house offers a welcome break.  The ground floor is an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, well designed to fit in all you need for a simple seaside holiday. The cool tiled floors run throughout, and the large glass doors front and back keep the space bright and airy.

The living area has a large comfortable sofa, an ideal space for curling up with a good book and  a cot could be added in this area. The compact kitchen has all you need to prepare and cook some of the wonderful fresh seafood available from all over the island.  It has a work top cooker with double rings, microwave and washing machine. If you need to keep out of the sun for your lunch there is a table and seating for 4.  Just off the kitchen is the shower room.  Up the stairs you find yourself in the mezzanine bedroom with a large comfortable double bed.

Parent Point
The mezzanine bedroom with its horizontal balustrades is not suitable for small children; the cot is probably better left in the living area.  The bunk-room is accessed from the exterior of the house so we would only recommend this as an option for much older children.

Outside
Step outside Brise de Mer and straight into a delightful private enclosed garden.  After your busy day building sandcastles take a rest on one of the sunloungers on the suntrap patio whilst your baby plays under the shade of the trees. Having stopped at the local fish market you can bbq and enjoy your fresh seafood - Ile d’Oleron is famous for its wonderful oysters.

To the front of the house is the quite cul de sac that makes up the complex, walking to the end of this takes you to a quiet road leading directly down to the beach about 5 minutes away.  Turning in either direction takes you straight onto the miles of cycle paths that cover the island whilst a 15 minute stroll takes you to a charming traditional fishing harbour, with a fish market and a good variety of restaurants and shops.

And Beyond…
Just a short walk away are beautiful golden sandy beaches, with the house close enough to return to for a rest from the sun and sea.

The pretty harbour of La Cotiniere is close by where you can spend hours watching the boats come and go, whilst sipping a coffee or a cool glass of local wine.  The many quayside restaurants are excellent and the fish comes straight from the boats to the table.

Cycle hire is easy here and cycles can be delivered to your door, baby seat and trailers are available and the whole island is covered with wide flat cycle paths.  You can in fact leave your car at the house and get everywhere by bike.

Just 10 minutes away in the centre of the island are the quaint narrow streets of Dolus where you will find yet more restaurants, good shops, and all other amenities.  This is a lovely place to wander and take in the traditional French market surrounded by houses with their sea blue and green shutters.  A little further a field at the north of the island is the lighthouse where you can look out from the top over the mussel beds and the never ending sea.

To the south of the island is the citadel of Château-d'Oléron, which hosts an excellent market on a Sunday morning, and after a long leisurely lunch why not explore yet more long golden beaches?

Boyardville is home to another delightful harbour with quayside restaurants and cafes; here you can see how the other half live with their pleasure boats all lined up in the sun.  Plenty of sea based sports are available from various beach front centres such as sailing, surfing and even sand yachting.
