To find out more about what is available at Ker Cottages, click here. What we think… This lovely cluster of three cottages provides simple and comfortable accommodation for families with kids in tow. The central location is great for exploring Brittany - a corner of France where life takes on a slow pace – so you can take a moment to enjoy a freshly made crêpe and a glass of local cider. The open space, heated pool and warm, welcoming atmosphere make this a lovely place to enjoy time with your children. Inside The layout at Buzzard Cottage is both practical and convenient for families. The open plan living, dining and kitchen area is simple, yet well equipped which means that this area is the heart of the property and you can keep an eye on all that is happening whilst assembling your collection of fresh market produce. The kitchen is fitted with an electric cooker, large fridge/freezer, microwave, electric kettle, coffee machine and a washing machine. Meanwhile the comfy sitting area has a TV and CD/DVD player so do bring your children’s favourite DVDs! Notably these cottages are stuffed full of period features such as the exposed stone wall and original beams harking back to their time as cattle sheds and grain stores. Owl and Swallow Cottages still feature some of the old cattle tether rings! Buzzard Cottage was originally a farm workers cottage and all of the buildings date back 200 years and formed part of the original farm. These two bedroom cottages share a similar layout with one large double bedroom, a children’s bunk bed room and a shower room. The double room has a cupboard and a chest of drawers as well as plenty of space for a cot. The views from the windows are a delight with nothing but fields and trees in sight; a wonderful location to get away from it all! Electric convector radiators do the trick once the weather becomes cooler. Buzzard Cottage also has a wood burning stove for those out of season breaks and there are also electric fans available for use during really hot weather.
Parent point: The wood burning stove doesn’t have a guard as it is difficult to install. Parents should consider this if booking in early spring or winter.
Outside Each cottage has its own private patio area with a table, chairs, barbecue and parasol for al fresco meals. This is also a great vantage point from which to watch your children playing happily in the grounds. The swimming pool is a great focal point for families and will be a fun place for you and your children to meet other families. The pool is both heated and enclosed to ensure maximum fun and safety! There are also gentle stone steps leading down to the water which a great place for toddlers to sit and play and to build up water confidence. The grounds are well kept and there are swings, a slide, a playhouse and a boules court to enjoy during your stay. Parent points: • There are a few pieces of old farm machinery used as decoration in the grounds. These could be hard to fall on. • The grounds are not completely enclosed. There is a long drive down to the properties and the road at the top is only a small country road so it would be unlikely that children would wander that far.
Baby and Toddler Friendly! • Enclosed heated Swimming Pool • Outdoor climbing frame and swings • Garden playhouse • Stair gates • Cots and cot linen • Baby monitor • Steriliser • Microwave • High Chair (s) • Booster seat • Hand blender • Plastic plates, cups and cutlery • Potty • Changing mat • Bath toys • A selection of toys *Please note: As this is a cluster property, you will need to request any specific equipment you will require at the time of booking. For the children With over two acres to explore there is plenty to keep your children entertained. The swimming pool will be a great hit and there are swings, a slide and a playhouse too. For some indoor fun are CD and DVD players in each cottage and children’s DVD library as well as a selection of children’s toys. And Beyond... Ker Cottages is a great place to base yourselves so you can explore this unique region. The food, the culture and the scenery are enchanting and when you have eaten more crepes than you can manage then a visit to Lac Guerledan is close by and highly recommended. Here you can hire a canoe or a pedaloe or simply take a dip in the water…or enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee or an excellent meal in one the best restaurants in the area; a wide variety of dishes are available and the restaurant is child friendly wih a special children's menu. Alternatively the coast is only 40 minutes away and there are plenty of beaches to choose from there. The resort of Carnac for example has a mixture of sandy beaches and is well served with good shops and restaurants. Quimper meanwhile is an interesting town with lots of historic buildings, cobbled pedestrian streets and fabulous restaurants. We can highly recommend choosing a restaurant in the cathedral square where you can watch the world go by while enjoying a glass of wine. For the creative amongst you, you could choose to visit the Clay Barn at Kernascleden. Once painted, your item will be fired, ready for you to collect later. A more active alternative might be the Parc Le Sterou where you can go on jeep safari and meet wild deer in lovely countryside or Parc Pourleth (15 mins away) where there is a large quad biking circuit. There really is something for every member of your family in this area! Before booking, please read about Realistic Expectations. You should also read our Terms and Conditions.
